Tasting Notes

The 2018 Maestro Collection Napa Valley Rosé is a glistening, pale pink-blush color in the glass with lifted aromas of fresh strawberry, spring cherry and tropical hibiscus flower notes. The bright fruit flavors on the palate are well balanced by more subtle notes of spiced tea, rosewater and a healthy dose of minerality. The wine is delicate yet has a rich texture and good flavor intensity followed by a strong line of acidity leading to a lengthy finish.

Vineyard Notes

The Malbec in this vintage of the Maestro Rosé comes from our estate BV Ranch 2 and BV Ranch 10 Vineyards in Rutherford while additional Malbec fruit, along with Touriga Nacional, comes from our heritage BV Ranch 12 in the Calistoga American Viticultural Area (AVA), at the northern region of Napa Valley. These areas offer some of the Napa Valley’s warmest daytime temperatures but also some of its coldest nights during the growing season. In addition to the Malbec and Touriga Nacional, the 2018 Rosé also boasts 18% of Pinot Noir from the Grace Benoist Ranch Vineyard located in the Carneros AVA.

Winemaking Notes

The grapes for this wine were specifically grown with the intention of making a Rosé. Therefore, every step of the winemaking process was meticulously considered. After hand harvesting the fruit at optimal ripeness, this Rosé was made using both the Saignée (the process of bleeding off wine after a limited time with skin contact) and maceration/direct press methods.  Great care was taken in minimizing overall skin contact to achieve just the right amount of color in the final wine. The wine was fermented in both stainless steel and neutral oak barrels to develop the wine’s rich texture while maintaining its bright fruit characteristics.

Vintage Notes

The Napa Valley region enjoyed a stunning, near picture-perfect 2018 growing season including good winter rains, mild spring weather and steady temperatures throughout. These ideal growing conditions were followed by a cool, even and slow-paced harvest which allowed the winery to vinify wines at a gentle pace. The resulting 2018 wines are of very high quality with concentrated flavors, color and excellent acidity.
