The 2020 Ranch No. 2 Cabernet Sauvignon displays a strikingly dark and deep color. The nose reveals intriguing aromas of blackberry, cassis, black cherry, and fresh earth. On the palate, notes of berry compote, coco powder, and wild sage exhibit the distinctive essence of Rutherford. Present tannins support the concentrated fruit, balanced by well-integrated acidity that leads to a long and pronounced finish. Winemaking
After night harvesting, the grapes were immediately delivered to the winery where they were destemmed and cold soaked for seven days to gently ease color and flavor. During the roughly twelve-day fermentation, timely pump overs kept the skins in contact with the juice for excellent flavor and tannin extraction. The wine spent 22 months in French oak barrels giving the final wine refined tannins and beautiful toasted barrel notes.Vintage
It was a warm, dry winter and the rain and cooler weather didn’t arrive until the end of March. While the mild spring provided a great early start, summer brought very cool mornings and very warm days. The harvest was smaller, and one of the most challenging in history, but our always optimistic team was able to create wines of high quality, with concentrated flavors and excellent acidity, from this unprecedented vintage.Vineyard
Fruit for this wine was sourced from our historic Beaulieu Vineyard Ranch No. 2 on the southern Rutherford bench. The 140-acre vineyard, planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, enjoys optimal sun exposure and experiences cooling influences from regular morning fog, allowing for a long even growing season. BV Ranch No. 2 is known for producing full-bodied concentrated wines which highlight the appellation’s signature Rutherford Dust flavor profile.
