750mL

A stunning ruby beauty, Beaulieu Vineyard’s 2023 Reserve Pinot Noir is an elegant and pleasing expression of the vintage and varietal. Pure, red fruit aromas of pomegranate and fresh-picked plum are bracketed by scents of clove and earthy cranberry to dish a
delightful impression of strawberry shortcake. Welcoming and generous, this wine’s smooth, rich palate is evenly balanced by finely structured tannins that flourish and grip succulent flavor notes through a taste parade of cherry, raspberry, boysenberry, and espresso. Thoroughly enjoyable on its own, this supple Pinot Noir will pair well with hard cheeses like Manchego and richer, savory dishes such as roast duck with plum sauce and mushroom bourguignon.

Winemaking

The grapes for this Reserve Pinot Noir benefited from our state-of-the-art optical sorter technology, which scrutinizes every berry to obtain the highest quality fruit. We fermented the must in stainless steel tanks until dry. Gentle pump-overs during fermentation extracted flavor, color, and tannins from the skins. We then pressed and transferred all the wines to small oak barrels coopered with French oak to develop and integrate flavors over the next 17 months.

Vintage

In 2023, the cool, maritime-swept Carneros region benefited from a classic growing season defined by moderation and persistence. A wet and cool winter segued into a foggy "June gloom," delaying bud break and pushing veraison late into the season. Throughout summer, temperatures remained mild, with daytime highs generally between the low to mid-70°F
range, which allowed fruit to ripen evenly and maintain vibrant natural acidity. Harvest was unusually late; this extended hang time permitted development of excellent flavor and structural depth without loss of finesse. The resulting wines display refined minerality, bright acidity, and a clarity of fruit. Age-worthy, they are beautifully balanced with vivid aromatics that reflect the cool-climate precision of this remarkable 2023 vintage.

Vineyard

Our Reserve Pinot Noir is sourced from our finest vineyard in Los Carneros, in the far northwest corner of the Carneros appellation. Unlike the uplifted bay-bottom clay soils in
most of the Carneros region, the soils at our estate vineyard are volcanic in origin. This site’s well-draining, rocky upland soil and location close to the Pacific Ocean and San Pablo
Bay make it an ideal place to grow Burgundian varieties. Up to 20 distinct Pinot Noir clones are planted here, and these reserve-quality grapes yield impeccably balanced Pinot
Noir with abundant personality. A selection of Dijon clones perfumed the wine with floral and vibrant red-fruit notes, while Pommard clones enhanced the wine’s dark-fruit flavors,
structure and minerality.
