750mL

The light straw color of Beaulieu Vineyard’s Maestro Collection 2023 Chardonnay belies the richness of this beautifully structured wine. Its opening salvo of orchard fruit and oak spice aromas brings a volley of fresh Golden Delicious apple, toasted hazelnut, vanilla bean, and star anise notes to the nose. Flavors of white peach, caramelized plantain, and honeycomb suffuse the juicy palate. Structure and lush fruit intertwine to bolster one another throughout, and this wine finishes with the lingering brightness and velvety texture of a delicious apricot tart. Chicken cordon bleu would make an excellent meal pairing, as would chowders and puréed vegetable soups.

Winemaking

Grapes were harvested into small bins at night on October 16, 2023, and delivered to the winery in the cool of the morning. After gently pressing the whole clusters, we barrel fermented the wine in small French oak barrels to add layers of flavor and textural complexity. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the mouthfeel while bâtonnage (stirring the lees) enhanced the silky and creamy mouthfeel.

Vintage

The 2023 season unfolded with ideal weather conditions. Heavy winter and early spring rains alleviated the drought, refilling groundwater reserves and reservoirs. Increased soil
moisture led to healthy vine vigor and a delayed budbreak. The cooler weather held steady, and the fruit saw longer hang times, culminating in a prolific 2023 harvest with
plenty of elegance that beautifully reflects the unique terroir. Harvest began significantly later than usual, commencing with Sauvignon Blanc in early September and intensifying
with the arrival of Cabernet the last two weeks of October. This, along with high yields, posed unique logistical challenges in managing tank space within the winery. However, our team leveraged years of experience and new technology to efficiently navigate these complexities. Overall, the quality of the 2023 harvest proved to be exceptional.

Vineyard

We selected fruit from Stanley Ranch in Carneros where the vines yield small, intensely flavored Chardonnay grapes. This vineyard is located in the cool, windy Los Carneros
American Viticultural Area (AVA) at the southernmost tip of Napa Valley, just a half mile from San Pablo Bay. The region’s shallow clay loam soils and marine-influenced climate foster ripe, beautifully balanced Chardonnay grapes.
