750mL

Black pepper, sea salt, and mineral top notes skip across the nose of Beaulieu Vineyard’s 2022
Beaurouge like stones across water, scattering into a pool of rich plum, fig, and dark chocolate caramel aromas. A lustrous aubergine color, this smooth blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah is bright with red fruit; juicy raspberry compote and dried cranberry flavors stud its palate of rich, dark chocolate bark. A barrel-wood shot of espresso chases these flavors through the prolonged, dense finish, which is caught in the clutch of firm, tenacious tannins. Enjoy this lively wine with grilled bison burgers, sausages, and charred broccolini.

Winemaking

The grapes for this red wine benefited from our state-of-the-art optical sorter technology, which scrutinizes every berry to obtain the highest quality fruit. We fermented the must in stainless steel tanks until dry. Gentle pump-overs during fermentation extracted flavor, deep color, and tannins from the skins. We then pressed and transferred all the wines into small oak barrels coopered with French oak to develop and integrate flavors over the next 15 months.

Vintage

The winter of 2022 was warm and dry. Rain and cooler weather arrived toward the end of March. The mild spring brought a promising early beginning, while the summer surprised us with cool mornings and warmer afternoons. As a result, the harvest produced smaller berries with concentrated flavors and remarkable acidity, resulting in balanced, excellent wines.

Vineyard

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this wine are sourced from our estate Beaulieu Vineyard No. 12 in Calistoga. The vineyard enjoys both optimal sun exposure and cooling influences from regular morning fog, which allows for a long, even growing season. The Syrah portion of the blend is also grown at Beaulieu Vineyard Ranch No. 12 in Calistoga. Chosen for its vibrant expression of blueberry, violet, and spice, the Syrah adds an overall lushness and fullness to the palate.
