750mL

Our 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is youthful and bright, opening with a generous burst of blackberry and ripe plum, interwoven with rich layers of cocoa bean, molasses, and chocolate-covered cherries. Subtle hints of toasted hazelnut skin lend a nutty warmth, while a streak of ripe strawberry adds a lifted, high-toned contrast to the darker fruit core. The palate is medium-bodied in density with a lively structure and freshness in acidity that emphasizes its red-fruited profile. Notes of sweet Bing cherry and red raspberry take center stage, offering a fresh, juicy palate that carries through to a long, raspberry sorbet-like finish. Underpinning the fruit is a fine thread of dark chocolate, which adds nuance and depth. Fine-grained, felt-like tannins provide a soft but structured backbone, supporting the wine’s vibrant character and promising a graceful evolution in bottle. This Cabernet is mouth pleasing and approachable, making it the perfect accompaniment to grilled meat dishes like beef tenderloin, duck breast with cherry glaze or roasted rosemary encrusted lamb chops, or pair alongside aged cheeses or mushroom risotto.

Winemaking

After the grapes were destemmed and crushed, we fermented the must in stainless steel tanks until dry. We then pressed the skins and gently transferred the freshly fermented wine to French oak for malolactic fermentation and aging. Prior to bottling, we blended several varieties with the Cabernet Sauvignon to add complexity and plushness to the wine’s mid-palate. This also added plenty of finesse to the lingering finish and enhanced the flavor and aroma profile of this beautiful wine.

Vintage

The 2023 season unfolded with ideal weather conditions. Heavy winter and early spring rains alleviated the drought, refilling groundwater reserves and reservoirs. Increased soil moisture led to healthy vine vigor and a delayed budbreak. The cooler weather held steady, and the fruit saw longer hang times, culminating in a prolific 2023 harvest with plenty of elegance that beautifully reflects the unique terroir. Harvest began significantly later than usual, commencing with Sauvignon Blanc in early September and intensifying with the arrival of Cabernet the last two weeks of October. This, along with high yields, posed unique logistical challenges in managing tank space within the winery. However, our team leveraged years of experience and new technology to efficiently navigate these complexities. Overall, the quality of the 2023 harvest proved to be exceptional. The prolonged ripening mitigated green flavors and tannins, resulting in a harmoniously balanced structure with brilliant color and freshness.

Vineyard

We sourced the majority of the Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley’s Rutherford, Calistoga, and St. Helena appellations. The diverse soils and microclimates, as well as the various clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and cultivation techniques, contributed to this wine’s complex flavor profile. The balance of the blend was grown both in our estate vineyards and other quality vineyards of Napa Valley.
