Among the mythical Cult Cabs of Napa, our flagship, Georges de Latour Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, holds pride of place. Released for the first time in 1941, this 1936-vintage wine changed the standard for Napa Valley Cabs and became one of the most sought-after American wines in the world.

Napa’s Original Cult Cab
the birth of an icon
“All my wines should be as good as this one. That’s why I hired you.” This statement from Georges de Latour to André Tchelistcheff was the start of an incredible adventure for BV and California wine.
One of the first things André did when he moved to Napa was to taste a special lot of 1936 Cabernet that Georges had made for his own family’s enjoyment. André was so impressed by its character and quality that he insisted it be bottled separately. That “good” wine became the inaugural vintage of Georges de Latour Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa’s Original Cult Cab.
