Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve wines are handcrafted from the finest grapes of the vintage, focusing on our premier estates in Rutherford, Carneros and other Napa Valley appellations. For more than 100 years, Beaulieu Vineyard has set the benchmark for rich, classic Napa Valley wines. Our legacy honors the marriage between state-of-the-art technology and gentle, traditional winemaking methods, a combination that enhances the expression of our remarkable vineyard terroir. Our Pinot Noir is sourced from some of our finest estate vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, with the majority coming from our Los Carneros estate in the far Northwest corner of the Carneros appellation.
This Reserve Pinot Noir is incredibly aromatic and expressive with beautifully balanced, flavorful fruit. Notes of lifted vibrant Bing cherry and fresh blackberry are layered with nuances of red berry cobbler and stewed strawberries. This Pinot Noir is soft and round with good saturation and midstructure, leading to a voluptuous, silky mouthfeel.
The 2019 harvest started one to two weeks later than previous years, mostly due to February rains, but because the vines were in their winter dormancy, it did not affect the 2019 crop. Spring continued to be wet with some rain during flowering, followed by cool temperatures that allowed the grapes to mature gradually. Most grapes ripened at lower sugars, thanks to the extended, cool growing season, and winemakers were pleased with the full flavors, fresh acidity and superb balance of the 2019 fruit. Wildfires in October did not impact this year’s harvest as the vast majority of the grapes were already brought in, resulting in a crop size pretty much on par with previous years.
Our Pinot Noir is sourced from some of our finest estate vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, with the majority coming from our Los Carneros estate in the far Northwest corner of the Carneros appellation. Unlike most of Carneros, which is largely uplifted bay bottoms with soils composed of clay, the soils at here are variations of soils influenced by volcanic origin. Combining these well-drained, rocky upland soils with the extreme western location closer to the Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay make this site an ideal place to grow Burgundian varieties, of which up to 20 distinct Pinot Noir clones are planted. These reserve-quality grapes yield impeccably balanced Pinot Noir with abundant personality. A selection of Dijon clones perfumed the wine with floral and vibrant red-fruit notes, while Pommard clones enhanced the wine’s dark-fruit flavors, structure and minerality.
