The 2017 Maestro Collection Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon shows expressive aromatics of bright Bing cherry and rhubarb alongside graham cracker crust and gingerbread notes from the oak barrel integration. The plush, full-bodied palate is rich and ripe with layers of black currant, macerated red raspberry, holiday spiced sugar plum and savory spice flavors of nutmeg and clove. This a well-structured wine with firm yet silky-smooth tannins and balanced acidity, finishing long and persistent with hints of earth, black pepper and spice.

”Warm plum and boysenberry compote flavors lead the way in this forward red, with a rounded, easy feel and light sassafras and anise notes peeking in along the way. Broad finish. Drink now through 2026. 313 cases made.” - James Molesworth, November 2020
“A sumptuous Oakville cabernet, this is ripe and soft in the middle, then ends on the bitter char of its dark tannins. For prime rib slow roasted in a wood oven.” - Joshua Greene, December 2020

The 2017 vintage in the Napa Valley was smaller yielding but high in quality. The region enjoyed much needed rain during the winter months ending the drought. A short period of warmer than usual temperatures during Labor Day weekend accelerated harvest for early ripening grapes varieties, resulting in an intense and, at times, unpredictable harvest. Though yields were lower than usual, the wines show exceptional flavor intensity and conditions were perfect for producing a Cabernet with beautiful fruit as well as tremendous concentration of flavors, highly saturated color, and layers of complexity.
The fruit for this wine is from the Gamble Vineyard in the famed Oakville appellation. The Oakville District AVA, one of the first wine growing regions within the Napa Valley recognized as an official AVA, is just a small two-mile-wide stretch of pristine vineyard sites. With well-draining, complex volcanic soils and a beautiful temperate climate, the Oakville District has gained a healthy reputation for producing some of the finest expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley.
