The 2016 Maestro Collection Muscat Canelli offers beautiful high-tone perfumed aromas of jasmine, pear blossom and white peach. The intriguing bouquet leads to a juicy palate filled with tropical fruit, sweet citrus and honey flavors. The wine is intentionally made with some residual sugar leaving a lightly sweet palate which enhances the personality of the grape varietal. The lush palate is balanced by refreshing acidity and leaves a lingering, flavorful finish.

After hand harvesting, the grapes were pressed off then cold fermented at 48 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the delicate floral and fruit forward characteristics of this unique varietal. Limited winemaking, no malolactic fermentation or oak influence, allows this varietal to showcase the pretty characteristics Muscat Canelli is known for.
Jeffrey Stambor joined the Beaulieu Vineyard winemaking team in 1989 as a viticulturist/enologist. As the current director of winemaking, he leads production of the winery’s world-renowned Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon, and presided over the harvest and vinification of 2013 Rarity – the extremely limited release Cabernet Sauvignon blend. He is only the fourth director of winemaking in Beaulieu Vineyard’s history, and the third to craft Georges de Latour Private Reserve over the 77-year history of that iconic wine following Andre Tchelistcheff, the original winemaker, and his immediate predecessor, Joel Aiken.
The 2016 vintage in the Napa Valley was another beautiful year for high quality, fully-developed fruit with concentrated flavors. The region enjoyed more rain during the winter months but the vineyards are still seeing the effect from several years of drought conditions resulting in a lighter than normal crop. With no spring frost or heat spikes throughout the growing season this is another banner vintage for vintners and growers across the Napa Valley.
The Muscat Canelli variety grows well in many regions throughout the Napa Valley. Our Muscat Canelli comes from our BV Ranch No. 8 vineyard in the Los Carneros American Viticultural Area (AVA), at the southern tip of Napa Valley as well as our BV Ranch No. 11 vineyard located in the warmer Calistoga AVA in the northern portion of the Valley. This vineyard combination lends to the overall balance of the wine; ripe, rich fruit with good, persistent acidity.
