Vintage 2015
Wine Type Red
Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor

Just south of our Rutherford winery and vineyards, the Oakville appellation is home to some of the most storied Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Napa Valley. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful example of the region's capacity for producing Bordeaux varietals with nuance, structure and elegance.

Tasting Notes

The 2015 Maestro Collection Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon opens with expressive aromatics of fresh boysenberry, pomegranate, tobacco leaf and warm mocha. The full-bodied palate is rich and supple with layers of cherry, mixed fruit jam and savory spice flavors. This a well-structured wine with firm yet smooth tannins and balanced acidity. The wine is drinking incredibly well in its youth, but will be sure to reward careful cellaring in years to come.

Vineyard Notes

The fruit for this wine is from the Gamble Vineyard in the famed Oakville appellation. The Oakville District AVA, one of the first wine growing regions within the Napa Valley recognized as an official AVA, is just a small two-mile-wide stretch of pristine vineyard sites. With well-draining, complex volcanic soils and a beautiful temperate climate, the Oakville District has gained a healthy reputation for producing some of the finest expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley.

Winemaking Notes

To develop this wine’s complex fruit expression, we first cold soaked the destemmed grapes for gentle flavor and color extraction. During fermentation, regular pumpovers incorporated the flavor-rich extract from the skins into the wine. Malolactic fermentation, which naturally changes the malic acid into softer lactic acid, rounded the flavors. The wine was barrel aged exclusively in French oak (80% new) for 22 months.

Vintage Notes

Good growing conditions throughout the season led vintage 2015 fruit to come in early, with very good quality across the board for whites and reds. A cooler than normal late spring during flowering kept yields down, as did the effects from California’s continued drought. Despite this and a hot weather snap in early summer, the overall season was smooth and uneventful. Harvest started early and the grapes came into the winery with beautiful flavor development and concentrated color, resulting in excellent vintage 2015 wines.
