Vintage 2011
Wine Type Red
Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon
Region Napa Valley
Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor

This is a handcrafted wine in every sense of the word. Medium-full bodied, it has great textural richness and length on the palate, with firm, rich tannins melting into intense flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, mocha and roasted coffee. This vintage should mature well for 10 years or more.

Tasting Notes

Opaque black-ruby color. Highly aromatic nose, perfumed with berry, herbs, spicy vanilla-oak, black cherry and anise, with an intriguing coffee overtone. Medium full-bodied, the wine reveals a rich mouthfeel, with lovely ripe fruit and firm tannins, beginning with a sweet, juicy entrance followed by chewy, dense, ripe tannins, and finishing with balanced oak, anise, wild herb and mint flavors. An elegantly rich wine, Clone 4 shows both finesse and strength, indicative of at least a decade's worth of aging potential.

Wine Advocate - 91 points

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4 offers sweet notes of cassis, licorice, lead pencil shavings, new saddle leather and spice. There is great fruit on the attack, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish. Consume it over the next 12-15 years. - Robert Parker (10/2014)

James Suckling - 93 Points

“This is a dense and rich red with plum and walnut character. Hints of chocolate. Medium to full body, firm and velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. Ripe fruit and walnut undertones here. Structured and solid.” – James Suckling

Winemaker's Note

Hand harvesting of the clusters, cold soaking of the must for flavor extraction and gentle punch-downs in open-top fermentors all contributed to the rich flavor expression and plush tannin structure of clone 4 in this wine. After gentle pressing, we transferred the wine to new French oak barrels for in-barrel malolactic fermentation followed by 20 months of aging.
