Wine Type Red
Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor

Just south of our Rutherford winery and vineyards, the Oakville appellation is home to some of the most storied Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Napa Valley. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful example of the region's capacity for producing Bordeaux varietals with nuance, structure and elegance.

93 Points - James Suckling

“This is a very bright and fresh red with tightly integrated tannins that are fine-grained, tight and focused. Medium- to full-bodied, driven and bright with a fine and pretty finish. Shows precision and polished tannins. Pure Cabernet. Drink or hold.” - James Suckling,, May 2018

Tasting Notes

The 2014 Maestro Collection Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon offers layered aromas of boysenberry, black cherry and roasted espresso. The entry is focused and the palate is filled with cherry and berry juicy fruit, melted milk chocolate and crushed anise spice flavors. The lush texture is supported by firm, smooth tannins which lead to a bright and lengthy finish.

Vineyard Note

The fruit for this wine is from the Gamble Vineyard in the famous Oakville appellation. The Oakville District AVA, one of the first wine growing regions within the Napa Valley recognized as an official AVA, is just a small two-mile-wide stretch of pristine vineyard sites. With well-draining, complex volcanic soils and a beautiful temperate climate the Oakville District has gained a healthy reputation for producing some of the finest expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley.

Winemaking Notes

To develop this wine’s complex fruit expression, we first cold soaked the destemmed grapes for gentle flavor extraction. During fermentation, regular pumpovers incorporate the flavor-rich skins into the juice. Malolactic fermentation, which naturally changes the malic acid into softer lactic acid, rounds the flavors. The wine is barrel aged exclusively in French oak (70% new) for 22 months.

Vintage Note

Napa Valley experienced an excellent 2014 growing season - from spring bud break through flowering and verasion - conditions were ideal. Vintage 2014 will be noted as one of the earliest harvests on record and also remembered throughout the valley for the 6.0 earthquake that struck in August.
