"It is incredibly rewarding to lead Wynns talented viticultural team. We have a profound respect for our heritage, each other, and the precious environment that is Coonawarra. There is an intense focus on the needs of the vine, on implementing new and courageous viticultural techniques, and on unravelling the endlessly complex web of interactions involved in growing the perfect grape."
Allen’s obsession with viticulture began thirty years ago, when he combined qualifications in agriculture and education to teach viticultural components of the winemaking and
marketing courses at Roseworthy College.
In recognition of Allen Jenkins' contribution to viticulture at Wynns he was announced as joint recipient of the Gourmet Traveller WINE’s Winemaker of the Year with Wynns Winemaker Sue Hodder in 2010.

“I’m proud of the responsibility I have for maintaining the quality of a range that represents Coonawarra as a region as much as they represent Wynns Coonawarra Estate … It relates to being a custodian of a great winemaking tradition.”
Sue Hodder is one of Australia’s best-known winemakers and this year celebrates her 23rd vintage with Wynns – making wine from wonderful, expressive fruit grown in the heart of the terra rossa.
Sue commenced her career as a viticulturist. Sue believes her early viticultural training – assessing vines, analysing mature fruit and tasting the finished wine – gave her an invaluable insight into the importance of the vineyard in quality winemaking.
Sue brings valuable experience with vintages in other noted wine regions around the world and has judged extensively in Regional, National and International wine shows.
"Working with exemplary and historic vineyards is just the start of the rewards for Wynns winemakers. Our inspiring and challenging team is constantly thinking of the next step to take for this iconic Australian winery."
In 1998 Sarah was appointed winemaker at the renowned Wynns Coonawarra Estate winery. Here she feels privileged to continue the tradition of excellence and innovation, working with fruit from some of Australia’s top vineyards on the internationally famed terra rossa soil.
A love of well cellared, mature wines has been cultivated through her custodianship of the precious Wynns museum wines. An intense knowledge of the terroir of Coonawarra vineyards, and great skill with coaxing the best from old vine Cabernets are among her constant rewards.
Questioning and challenging are important to ensuring a healthy future for Wynns and to this end Sarah has contributed to many important trials including development of a rigorous oak selection programme, and other technical trials for the winery.
A graduate of the prestigious Len Evans Wine Tutorial, her recent judging experience spans a decade at both regional and national shows.
